ACL Injury rehab?
Has anyone be through ACL physical therapy? Can you relay me what exercises you did, how much time you spent on them per day, and how repeatedly you went contained by to see the therapist? Everyone keep on telling me, “Don’t verbs! Just do your rehab exercises and you’ll be fine!” but my physical therapy seem to be a really conservative treatment, consisting of really simple exercises, such as biking, lunges, and 1/3 knee bends. It’s making me a bit worried because I want to return to military arts, which is a really high impact and swiftly sport, and I don’t feel approaching my leg is strengthening that much at all.
Different types of graft require different rehabilitation protocol. The allograft is one that has the authority of not having to use your own musculotendinous unit, but the downside is that treatment must be a little more conservative to aver the integrity of the graft. That, combined with the predetermined therapy available from Kaiser, will formulate your program a little more conservative...putting more responsibility on you.
A three months out, you may a contender for stepping up your program. One of our local sugeons uses a leg press test to determine your compliance to progress to jogging. Once 70% strength artificial vs. unaffected is attained, patients are allowed to resume jog. However, this is applicable to ONLY patients seen by this doctor. Other doctors will use biodex isokinetic carrying out tests.
My point is, that there should be some assessment soon, but it is really up to the SURGEON'S protocol as to when this is appropriate. You still involve to protect your graft site...just to offer you an idea of when general public can really start stepping up their program, look at this following example: only when the lenient has attained 90% quad strength on the leg press theory test, will this particular surgeon allow the forgiving to begin actions that require jumping, adjectives, lateral movements, twisting and kicking type motions. This is usually around month 5-6.
You must be patient, but I would discuss beside the PT as to when reassessment for advancement in the protocol is appropriate. Do NOT try anything outside the compass of your PT without first discussing it near your PT.
It takes almost 6 months to even get a small amount of strenght contained by your knee. Your PT may want to lug it easy and not over exert the knees. I've had 9 knees surgeries and I had to eventually give notice martial arts b/c of this. You can also gossip to your surgeon, b/c based on my injury, illustrious impact sports were not for me anymore. I'm 24 presently and I'm about 2 years post-operation but I'm still seeing a PT every 3-6 months. Its not a upright idea to grasp exercise tips right now since you are still lower than the care of a PT. Take your time b/c trust me, I didn't and 9 surgeries next, I wish I have allowed my body its time to heal.
