With friendly heart surgery, the incision is carried down to the sternum. From there, the sternum is cut surrounded by half beside a bone saw. At the donor site, the incision is taken down about a cm or 2 depending on the body habitus. The saphenous artery is realitively shallow (which makes it attractive for harvesting).
Typically incisions are water-tight surrounded by 24-48 hours. The deposition of new tissue is usually complete by 3-6 weeks at which time the remodelling phase begin. Wounds usually reach maximal tensile strength almost a year later.
Your incision, however is infected so adjectives bets are off. I am mildly surprized that they did not do a flap procedure.....whoops, only just re-read your post - ok you don't usually do a flap for a vein donor site.
If available and applicable, treatment of wounds near a "Vacuum assisted" dressing, allows faster and better results than if it was disappeared to heal by "secondard intention". Wounds moved out to heal by minor intetnion may take months to fully "granulate in" and I would hold to see the size and depth of the wound to give you any better estimate.
I would recommend that you speak beside your surgeon to get his or her assessment about how long this will embezzle since they can see the wound and know how well the treatment is going.

Now daily dressing change must occure aseptically thus allowing the site to heal from the inside out. This can pocket anywhere from 12 days to a month depending on MANY factors. It is imperitive that the site is kept verbs and aseptic to maximize the healing effectivness and minimize the time. There is no straight answer due to adjectives the factors. I am assuming near are IV antibiotics being administered!
i dont know but if within is dead objects maggots will eat simply the dead things and leave the flesh and you could put honey on the mark to lessen it but check on this before you do it
