it's an operation performed when a individual type of break occurs contained by the hip. the fracture is called an extracapsular fracture and it refers to when the thigh bone is broken at the intersection between the neck and shaft of the thigh.

within the operation, there is a plate placed along the outside of the thigh bone and a screw is placed from the plate up through the globe of the thigh bone, where it fits into the hip socket.

sheesh, i'm shuddering merely thinking of this!
