How can I be sure that I want to be a doctor?

I am 17 and a junior in dignified school.
I really want to be a doctor, but sometimes I want to be something else.
I enjoy a passion for acting and singing, and I am virtuous at both.
I just wonder what will start if I get to medical university and decide that I don't want to be a doctor.
I enjoy a passion for prescription and a passion for helping relations, but I also have a love for other things.
I am just curious to know if someone go to medical school and approved that they didn't want to be a dcotor.
I know I am young and still hold a long way to turn, but I really want to have a correct future.
Any suggestion?

Answers:    Here's my advice, for what it's worth, but I tip off you, your parents aren't going to like it. ;-)

I am currently a fourth year medical student, but my undergraduate scope is in show business arts. I worked as an actress for about ten years, and for a company that represented opus singers for about three years after that, up to that time I started my post-bacc work and ended up surrounded by med school.

I really am not suggesting that any one else follow along that character of a path. But I will inform you one secret, grasshopper: it is expendable to know exactly what you want to do for the rest of your life when you are eighteen years dated.

It's really a shame when someone gets as far as med arts school before realize that they don't want to be a doctor. It's all the more plea to explore other things along the way. And here's another not to be disclosed: you do not have to do the traditional pre-med majors approaching biology or chemistry in lay down to apply to med school. In reality, they really like seeing other majors. So use your undergraduate years to explore. Don't be in motion in next to the determination that only finish up in med institution is an acceptable leeway. Try all kind of things--that's what college is supposed to be for.

At the end of that, if you still come up with that medicine is what you want to do--well, you'll be contained by a different place by then, and probably much more competent to decide whether it's the right choice for you. I don't for an instant regret not going for med university right out of high school/college. I would enjoy hated it next. Now I love it. Maybe you will too--but you don't ever want to feel close to you wound up here because you never thought about anything else.

(Oh, and the volunteering suggestion is a righteous one. )

Best of luck to you!
