What is a protozoan?
Answers:
Protozoans are the unicellular heterotrophs of the kingdom Protista . Protozoans comprise a colossal, diverse assortment of microscopic or near-microscopic organisms that live as single cells or contained by simple colonies and that show no differentiation into tissues. Formerly classified in the animal empire, they are now largely divided into five protist phyla: Mastigophora (the flagellates), Sarcodina (the amebas), Ciliophora (the ciliates), Opalinida , and Sporozoa . Most are mobile, and most ingest food, as do animals, rather than produce it themselves, as do plants. The 26,000 living species are cosmopolitan within distribution; they are found in freshwater and at adjectives depths in the the deep; some live in soil. Some are lice in the bodies of humans or other animals, sometimes cause diseases.
HOW THEY EAT
Some protozoans have complex digestive systems and nurture on large food particle, such as other microorganisms. The food is digested by means of enzymes and the inhospitable surroundings transported to the cell surface or stored in vacuoles (bubble approaching spaces in the cytoplasm). Others enjoy no digestive system and absorb dissolved natural matter through the cell membrane.
BREATHING
Respiration is capable by the diffusion of dissolved gases through the cell membrane. Oxygen diffuses into the cell, where on earth it oxidizes food molecules, producing energy and the life molecules used for the building and maintenance of the cell. Carbon dioxide and dampen, the waste products of this oxidation, diffuse out of the cell.
Any of a sizeable group of single-celled, usually microscopic, eukaryotic organisms, such as amoebas, ciliates, flagellates, and sporozoans.
