Lexapro & Alcohol could be fatal?
Answer:
The reason not to use them together is that Lexapro is an anti-depressant and Alcohol is labeled as a Depressant. While you can get an initial up feeling while drinking, the down feeling is lower than if you hadn't drank.
The two cancel out each other
You said some people, which is because medications affect people in different ways. Some people have liver damage/failure from too many Tylenol. I wouldn't drink and take the meds. But that is a personal choice. Call your doctor and ask him/her about your dosage and what amount of alcohol is safe.
no...if the answers sucks please talk to your doctor who prescribe you that drug. Sorry, I only took a few psychology classes. WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO IMPRESS ????
I take Lexapro and had the same concerns as you do. I also have a liver disease, so had to pay special attention to this concern. I asked both my hepatologist and my psychiatrist and received the same answer. Lexapro and other antidepressants can magnify the effect of alcohol ie, make you feel drunk quicker. Therefore, the first few times you drink while taking Lexapro, be careful.
Also, if you are drinking and taking Lexapro, Lexapro may not work for you that evening. That is because depressants and antidepressants CAN cancel eachother out.
Therefore:
Don't go overboard on drinking so that you do not overload your liver, since both alcohol and Lexapro are metabolyzed in the liver.
Don't expect to have Lexapro make you feel "better" if you are drinking.
And don't drink as much as you usually do, because you may find yourself drunk much sooner than you'd expect.
I hope this helps. This is what I have been following, and I am okay. (I get my liver tested every three months).
