Why do drug companies use artificial sweeteners (along side sugar) contained by children's medication?

My hubby just go out and bought some children's Motrin and Tylenol- both liquids. The Motrin contains acesulfame potassium and the Tylenol contained sucralose (splenda). It seem as though they are sneakily doing it by not making it clear on the box that the product contains artificial sweetners, hence most consumers are unaware of this practice. I steer clear of these ingredients surrounded by the foods I purchase and feed my relations. I know that they have be using alchohol derivatives like sorbitol for years. I'm not as anti these. What is the purpose of this? Why not just use sugar? I am both curious and furious!

Answers:
Sugar may crystallize out of the medication. If you've seen really infirm cough syrup you may have notice a white hard lump on the bottom due to crystallized sugar. Its easier to bar liquids than solids, so several products have replaced sugar near high fructose corn syrup. In children's medicine, though, they're using artificial sweeteners to get like effect because they can use very small amounts compared to the glorious fructose corn syrup necessary, and next to minimal "odd taste" effects due to this small amount. This is also beneficial because cough syrups are regularly a complex mixture and any additives may have unusual reactivity properties, so keeping the total stabilizer amount to a minimum will minimize those problems.

I'm with you, I need they'd just use sugar even though it'd possibly cut down on the shelf natural life, at least sugar is completely instinctive. As a chemist, I'm particularly concerned around the long-term safety and prudence of using organochlorines as food products (i.e. sucralose [1]).

There isn't much point in human being furious alone. Write to the companies that manufacture the products beside the artificial sweeteners and let them know your conviction, and the reason behind it. I'm afraid minus consumer or federal feedback there will be no justification to change current business practices.
Sugars not nutritious. Its just a instrument to make the kids get through the medicine
Just another instrument to ensure that children take unfavourable drugs into their systems to ensure that their developing bodies will have problems contained by health subsequent on in life span.
some artificial sweeteners can be 1000x sweeter or more. it is probably used to make the medecine swallow better. When selling to kids, that's very historic.
