I think it's a great thought. The general public is pretty misinformed when it comes to science but possibly it's because they don't have a resource.

That depends on the website. If it conveys information accurately and correctly contained by a way that the common public will learn from, that's great. If it say that you should sacrifice a goat to ward off evil spirits you might want to look elsewhere for your biotech information!
