Red blood cell are today preserved in CPDA-1 when collected for infants and ADSOL (AS-1) for adults. Red cell stored in CPDA-1 will own a shelf life of 35 days and ADSOL for 42 days. When you donate in one piece blood, it is separated into several different components so we can give the forgiving only what they involve. The storage temperatures oscillate as to what component of the blood it is. Red blood cells are stored from 1 to 6 degree Celcius typically but can be frozen at -70 degrees Celcius for up to 10 years!
