If the they enjoy a Ph.D
Anyone with a PHD is considered a dcotor, so it would depend on their schooling.
Only if you've get a Ph.D.
Requirements:

10) A PhD level based on several (e.g. 3) years of your own innovative research under the guidance of a supervisor.

11) Some post-doctoral research experience surrounded by which you choose a domain of molecular biology to make your own.

Therefore they will already hold the title Dr. from doing their PhD.

You could technically work contained by genetic engineering with simply a masters, but I'm guessing the big wigs within the biz have PhD's, and thus are indeed doctors.
