DIC ? from transfusion counterattack or AML(acute myelocytic leukemia. Father-in-law died from DIC -need to know.?

My father-in-law was suddenly not at your best in 6/04, misery, SOB, fevers. Docs could not find exact. He went through June and July, finally within July they found AML. He underwent a transfusion surrounded by early Aug., said that he feel funny during transfusion - itchy, hot and then that sentiment went away. He steadily go downhill from then, entering the hosp in 2-3 wks and developing DIC. There is a discrepancy in paperwork - we enjoy forms that state he was Type 0 blood, hosp say he was Type A. We wonder if he developed DIC from transfusion or from his AML. How can we be sure what he died of?

Answers:
as per ur information, it is more probable that he was died due to DIC developed due to Rh incmpatibility..as his blood grp be not known exactly, again his symptoms during tansfusion resembling feeling funny, itchy, hot flashes strongly suggest that near was some vascular abnormility going on within his Cardio vascular system, one more point here that from AML, patient cannot die suddenly, it's a slow spreading Carcinoma of blood..the conclusion here is that on base on evidences provided by u strongly suggest that he was died of Dissemeniated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC)..
looks resembling from your story, the hospital transfused the wrong blood type to your father in regulation.

it is true that blood transfusion can cause DIC. BUT
it is also true that AML can also motivation DIC.

the best way to be sure of what be the cause of his disappearance was for your father-in-law to endure an autopsy and a blood transfusion reaction investigation right after he died.

i doubt if that can still be carried out today since its be almost 2 years since his death.
I suggest that may be your father died from mismatched blood transfusion but it doesnt cause DIC from 1 init of blood but this may go on n massive blood transfusion
