For it. I would also like to clarify that I support embryonic stem cell research as in good health. Adult stem cells are nice and at hand is almost no morality issues with it, but they are far smaller quantity useful for research because they are already too far specialized. Stem cell from amniotic fluid (the fluid from the umbilical cord) are a bit less specialized, but still not as adjectives as embryonic stem cells, which hold the potential of becoming virtually any cell in the body. I do not consider research using embryonic stem cells is wrong for a few reasons. First, they aren't "harvesting" fetuses to use for the research. Cells from the fetus are already too specialized. They use cell from an embryo during the blastocyst stage (5-7 days after fertilization). Then they take the pluripotent inner mass cell from the blastocyst and differentiate them in a lab. Most of the embryonic stem cell used are the discarded embryos from fertilization clinics. At fertilization clinics, many eggs are fertilized because it customarily takes a few attempts before the egg is implanted. So, the extra embryos are simply thrown out. Why not use these discarded embryos for a good use? No one seem to have a problem near fertilization clinics, so what is the big deal? Also, I support embryonic stem cell research because of what an embryo is. An embryo is simply a glob of cell resulting from the fusion of a spermatocyte and an oocyte in the formation of a zygote. It have no organs, no vascularization, no heart, no brain, etc. It has no path of sensing pain or foreboding emotion. Some enunciate that an embryo has a soul. If so, consequently how would it come about? Does a soul arise from meiosis? Does respectively egg have a soul, or respectively sperm? Does that mean everytime a woman menstrates she is murdering a potential human human being? I personally do not believe surrounded by a soul, but if I did, I certainly would not say aloud that there is a soul surrounded by an embryo, especially if it is growing in a petri dish.

The stem cell debate is mostly political. The reality is that those of us surrounded by the scientific community do not see much promise contained by embryonic stem cell research for at least another twenty years. Embryonic stem cell research is not clean; it has be done for decades now, but literally zilch has come from it. The problem is that the signaling that occur in these cell to cause them to differentiate into any other cell surrounded by the body is so complex that it can take researchers a lifetime purely to figure out how to seize one cell type.
Then there is the other problem. An embryonic stem cell have the capability to grow and divide seemingly forever, unlike grown stem cells which slow down after a time. This is commonly cited as an advantage of embryonic stem cell, but it is actually the biggest problem next to them. A cell that grows and divides without stopping is the drastically definition of cancer. In fact, the classical assessment for checking to see if you have isolated embryonic stem cell is to inject some into a mouse. If the mouse develops a tumor within a few days, that manner you were successful. So, while we may be capable of cause embryonic stem cell to regenerate nerves, or pancreatic cells, or cardiac myocytes, we still don't know how to draw from them to stop growing.
