It is called glyburide within the US. It is used as an adjunct to diet to lower the blood glucose contained by patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (Type II) whose hyperglycemia cannot be adequately controlled by diet alone.

Glibenclamide (INN), also known as glyburide (USAN), is an anti-diabetic drug contained by a class of medications specified as sulfonylureas, used in the treatment of type II diabetes. The drug works by inhibiting ATP-sensitive potassium channel in pancreatic beta cell. This inhibition causes cell membrane depolarization, orifice of voltage-dependent calcium channels, thus triggering an increase within intracellular calcium into the beta cell which stimulates insulin release. It is sold in doses of 1.25mg, 2.5mg and 5mg, beneath the trade names Diabeta(R), Glynase(R) and Micronase(R) surrounded by the United States and Daonil(R), Semi-Daonil(R) and Euglucon(R) in the United Kingdom.

It is also sold within combination with metformin lower than the trade name Glucovance(R).

My interrogate to you is why would somebody be unable to use insulin? Insulin is a essentially occuring hormone produced by the pancreas. With the newer human insulins available today, no one should be not sufficiently expert to use insulin.
